Written Answers. - Radon Gas Levels.

Dr. Twomey asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if, in view of the fact that there was excessive radon levels in a third of schools here, his Department has plans or carried out tests for excessive radon levels in buildings under the control of or used by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.   Mr. N. Dempsey: My Department appointed a consultant, Radon Ireland, to undertake inspection and monitoring for radon levels in each of our buildings.

A total of 121 units were placed in various offices for the detection of radon. None of the offices tested exceeded the accepted safe annual average level of 400 Bq/m 3 for radon in the workplace.
