Dáil Éireann - Volume 597 - 15 February, 2005

Written Answers - School Transport.

  464. Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if school transport can be supplied to persons (details attached) in County Mayo in view of their traditional attendance at the school in question; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4580/05]

Ms Hanafin: The pupils to whom the Deputy refers live one mile from the route of service to the post-primary centre in question. My Department is satisfied that they have a level of service within guidelines, and therefore an extension of service is not warranted in this case. As a rule post-primary school transport routes are planned so that, as far as possible, no eligible child will have more than two miles to travel to a pick-up point. Pupils living off the main route of a service are generally expected to make their own way or to be brought to convenient pick-up points along the main route.
