245. Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Transport the number of staff employed by his Department; the bodies within its aegis which are covered by the benchmarking agreement; the [1430] projected costs in 2004 of paying this award; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21650/03]

Minister for Transport (Mr. Brennan): My Department currently has an authorised staffing compliment of 545.5. In the event that payment of the benchmarking pay award for 2004 is recommended, the projected cost will be €1 million approximately. Projected payments to bodies within my Department's aegis, which are covered by the benchmarking agreement, are set out in the following table.
