Dáil Éireann - Volume 470 - 22 October, 1996

Written Answers. - Aviation Category Status.

312. Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications whether Cork Airport has a new aviation category status following the provision of radar equipment and advanced runway lighting; if so, the way in which this status compares with Dublin and Shannon Airports; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19408/96]

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications (Mr. Stagg): This is a matter which falls within the statutory day to day remit of the Irish Aviation Authority and is not a matter in which I have any function. The Authority, under section 14 (1) (h) (v) of the Irish Aviation Authority Act, 1993 — No. 29 of 1993 — is responsible for regulating the operation and management of aerodromes. The Act specifically empowers the Authority to make orders for regulating the aeronautical safety standards at aerodromes.
