Dáil Éireann - Volume 452 - 16 May, 1995 Written Answers. - Grant Payments. Kathleen Lynch Kathleen Lynch 1749 22. Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the proposals, if any, he has to press for the extensification premium paid to cattle farmers to be extended to sheep farmers in view of the recent fall in lamb [1749] prices; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8779/95] Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates) Ivan Yates Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates): I am pursuing a number of measures to assist the medium and long term development of the Irish sheep industry. Among those measures are proposals which I have put to the Agriculture Commissioner and to the European Commission to compensate Irish sheep producers for the absence of price convergence under the existing arrangements for the fixing of the level of the ewe premium. The question of the extensification premium will be considered in that context. Mr. J. Walsh Mr. J. Walsh 1750 [1750] 23. Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will outline on a county by county basis the number of farmers who have applied for and have been approved for payment under the dairy hygiene grant scheme. [8803/95] Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates) Ivan Yates Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates): I am circulating a table giving the information requested. This table also includes applications approved to commence work under the scheme. It should be noted that approval for payment depends on the time taken for applicants to complete their approved works. The question of speeding up the processing of approvals to commence work is being urgently addressed. Dairy Hygiene Scheme
