Dáil Éireann - Volume 446 - 19 October, 1994

Written Answers. - Relocation of Annals of Innisfallen.

91. Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Finance if he will have arrangements made to have the Annals of Innisfallen returned to Killarney in view of the importance of the annals to cultural and historical interests visiting Killarney on a regular basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1651/94]

Minister of State at the Department of Finance (Mr. Dempsey): I am afraid [151] that there is still no change in the position. The Annals of Innisfallen remain in the Bodleian Museum in Oxford, as the result of an eighteenth-century bequest. The library authorities have consistently maintained that they are not at liberty to dispose of such bequests as a consequence of their statutory limitations.
