Dáil Éireann - Volume 436 - 01 December, 1993 Written Answers. - Drink Price Increases. Mr. Costello Mr. Costello 1158 104. Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the circumstances in which the recent increases in the price of drink occurred; the role played by the Vintners' Association in these increases; whether the proposed increases may breach the terms of the Programme for Economic and Social [1158] Progress; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Enterprise and Employment (Mr. Quinn) Ruairí Quinn Minister for Enterprise and Employment (Mr. Quinn): Following the reported increase in the price of drink in the Dublin area, I asked the Director of Consumer Affairs to carry out a full investigation in the matter. The Director's investigation will, I understand, explore the role played by the Vintners' Association in these alleged increases and other aspects. I await the Director's report with interest. The Programme for Economic and Social Progress is a framework which provides, inter alia, for policies aimed at macroeconomic stability, including low inflation.
