[167] 167. Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the present position in relation to the proposed Cork regional sports centre; when works on the preparation of contract documents for the project will be complete; and when work on the project is due to commence.

Minister for Education (Mr. S. Brennan): The proposals received to design, construct, part-finance and operate the Cork regional sports centre are presently under consideration by my Department in consultation with Cork Corporation. This approach to the provision of the centre raises complex issues which need careful consideration before a final decision can be made.

Pending completion of this examination it is not possible to give a definite date for the commencement of construction work on the project.
