47. Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when the proposed EC grant-aid will be paid to farmers in respect of the purchase of refrigerated milk units; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Dr. Woods): As part of the 1991-92 prices package a sum of 5 million ECU, £4.39 million, was secured by Ireland from co-responsibility levy funds for measures aimed at the improvement of Irish milk quality standard. Only measures begun after 17 June 1991 and completed before 1 February 1993 by qualified organisations or producer groups are aidable.

[1781] The EC Commission is currently examining the applications made and a decision on the measures to be funded will be taken shortly.
