84. Mr. Deasy asked the Taoiseach if he will outline (a) the amount and (b) the value of sugar (1) imported and (2) exported in each of the last six years.

The Taoiseach: The information requested by the Deputy is given in the following table which covers imports and exports of “cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose, in solid form”:—
* In general it should be noted that commodity detail from external trade statisticcs does not include: (a) transactions (non-dutiable) of less than £100 in 1986 and £200 from 1987; (b) trade by firms operating in Shannon Free Airport; and (c) postal packages not covered by customs entries.
