Dáil Éireann - Volume 400 - 19 June, 1990

Written Answers. - Cork National School.

243. Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if she will grant a concessionary position for Churchfield national school, Cork, having regard to the fact that it is one of the original category A disadvantaged schools in Cork [179] city and has become even more severely disadvantaged over the years.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): The staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery. As the enrolment at Churchfield National School was 351 on 30 September 1989, the authorised staffing for the 1990-91 school year is principal plus ten assistants. In addition the school has a remedial teacher plus a concessionary teacher under the special scheme for schools serving disadvantaged areas.

This school has already got a concessionary post under the scheme for schools serving disadvantaged areas and it would not be possible to allocate an additional such post to the school.
