224. Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health the number of qualified nurses who are employed on a temporary basis by the North-Eastern Health Board in that region; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

226. Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health the number of qualified nurses working in a temporary capacity in the six health board areas, other than the North-Eastern Health Board and the Eastern Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

These figures represent actual numbers employed rather than whole-time equivalents.

I understand that, as a result of recent competitions, a number of the nurses involved have been placed on panels established for the purposes of making permanent appointments.

[170] Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon): Excluding permanent staff who have opted to avail of job-sharing opportunities, I am advised that the number of nursing staff currently employed on a part-time basis by the Eastern Health Board is approximately 207.
