Minister for Energy (Mr. Molloy) Robert Molloy
Minister for Energy (Mr. Molloy): None of ESB's generating stations have as yet been fitted with nitrogen oxide scrubbing equipment. However, in order to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Sofia Protocol of the Geneva Convention on long range transboundary air pollution the ESB intend to install low-NOX reduction burners at their 900 MW coal burning station at Moneypoint. It is estimated that the cost to fit this equipment will be in the region of £6.5 million.
