Dáil Éireann - Volume 398 - 22 May, 1990

Written Answers. - Housing Capital Allocation.

172. Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment the number of houses for which sanction has been given for construction/acquisition and for refurbishment; and the total net number of dwellings to become available for letting or reletting as a result of the capital allocation.

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment (Mr. Connolly): I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 144 of 13 March 1990 which gives details of the number of approved starts/acquisitions for each local authority for 1990. Due to the varied nature and cost of the works involved in refurbishment schemes and the necessity to undertake projects on a phased basis, the number of dwellings the refurbishment of which will be funded in 1990 or which will as a result become available for reletting is not available at this stage. It is [2348] estimated that some 1,200 dwellings will be completed/acquired in 1990 and become available for letting with a further 1,100 houses in progress at the year's end; a breakdown by authority is not available at this stage.
