Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Education if a loss sustained in farming can be offset against an off-farm income in order that an applicant would be eligible for a higher education grant. Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke) Mary O'Rourke Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): In cases where income is derived from two or more separate sources, positive income from one source may not be reduced by losses or running expenses from another source. Accordingly, a loss sustained in farming may not be offset against positive income from another source for the purpose of determining reckonable income for a higher education grant.
