46. Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Finance (a) the take-up to date of funding from Phase II of the Special Border Areas Programme and (b) the projects funded for each Border county.

Minister for Finance (Mr. A. Reynolds): The Special Border Areas Programme (SBAP) Phase II provides ERDF aid for energy and tourism measures. These measures are funded under the programme as follows:

Payment received to date from the ERDF, in respect of 1986, 1987 and 1988, amount to £10.914 million.

As regards the projects funded in each county, the following lists cover tourism measures that were agreed for implementation [2044] under the programme. Work on gas-related measures in County Louth is also funded. The precise allocation of the amount reserved for the westward extension of the gas pipeline has yet to be determined.
