Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health if he has any objection to a private hospital in Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon) Rory O'Hanlon Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon): I am concerned that both public and private hospital services should be provided in a rational, effective and integrated manner and that duplication of or inappropriate use of resources should be avoided. While I have no objection in principle to the development of a private hospital in Waterford I believe that this should be considered in the context of the massive development at Ardkeen Hospital. The recognition for insurance purposes of a private hospital in Waterford is an operational matter for the Voluntary Health Insurance Board. Dáil Éireann 383 Written Answers.
