Written Answers. - Telephone Rental Allowance.

253. Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Defence if he will make a free telephone available to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

Minister for Defence (Mr. Cooney): The person referred to in the Deputy's question has not made any application to my Department for free telephone rental allowance.

One of the conditions for the grant of the allowance is that the applicant must be the registered telephone subscriber. It is understood, however, that the registered subscriber of the telephone installed at the address given is a son of the person in question.

Before any application in this case can be considered it would be necessary for the veteran to become a registered telephone subscriber.
