Dáil Éireann - Volume 349 - 03 April, 1984 Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Offenders. Mr. Kenny Mr. Kenny 589. Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice the numbers of prisoners at present serving sentences in each jail in the Republic who were born in Northern Ireland; and the numbers who are serving sentences for political rather than other offences. Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East) Michael Noonan 1026 Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): The information sought by the Deputy regarding the number of prisoners born in Northern Ireland at present serving sentences could not be compiled without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of official time. It is possible however, to say that 64 prisoners at present serving sentences gave addresses in Northern Ireland when committed to prison. It is known, however, that a number of other prisoners came originally from the North. The following [1026] tabular statement indicates where those prisoners who gave addresses in Northern Ireland are at present serving sentences. As regards the last part of the Question, no such classification is recognised.
