337. Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that in the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 a telephone connection fee was paid almost a year ago but that the telephone has not yet been connected; the reason for the delay; and when it will be connected.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): When the person named was invited to sign an agreement and make advance payment it was expected that telephone service would be provided for him within about three months. Regrettably, an unforeseen difficulty arose in connection with the telephone number allocated. This has now been resolved and it is expected that service will be connected within the next two weeks or so.

338. Mr. S. Walsh asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone [72] service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12.

339. Mr. S. Walsh asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Saggart, County Dublin.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): It has not been possible in the time available to trace an application for the person named. If the Deputy can furnish any additional information for example, where and when the application was made, further inquiry will be made.

340. Mr. S. Walsh asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Saggart, County Dublin.

341. Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin.

342. Mr. G. Birmingham asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be transferred for a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

343. Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 14 as she applied for a telephone approximately four years ago.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): It is expected that service will be provided for the person named, who [73] made application in May 1982, within about a year.

344. Mr. Fleming asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the 12 telephones which are currently out of order in St. Mary's Dominican Convent, Cabra, Dublin 7, will be restored to service.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): Service has been restored.

345. Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): Within about a year.

346. Mr. S. Walsh asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an additional telephone line will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): The person named has not applied for an additional telephone line. He has applied for an internal extension with coin box off his existing telephone.

Stocks of the coin box in use heretofore are exhausted. Supplies of an improved model are expected to be available about the middle of next year and the application will be attended to as soon as possible after that.

347. Mr. S. Walsh asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a firm (details supplied) in Dublin 3.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary cabling can be completed for about a year.

348. Mr. Meaney asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if and when extra telephonists will be recruited by his Department; and when the applicants who have passed exams will be taken on.

[74] Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): New appointments as telephonists in my Department have virtually ceased. Occasional appointments in lieu of retirements may be made in the Dublin area from time to time.

350. Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephones service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 as she has serious spine illness and is aged 70 and lives alone.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary cabling can be completed for about a year.

352. Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8; and the reason a service was not provided.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): A survey is being carried out to ascertain when it will be possible to provide service for the person named. The applicant will be contacted as soon as the result of the survey is known.

353. Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 as she is a widow living alone.

354. Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 as her husband is seriously ill and has had a number of heart attacks.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary cabling can be completed until well into next year.

355. Mr. B. Allen asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason the telephone of a person (details supplied) in Cork is still disconnected; and the reason officials of his Department have failed to contact him about his telephone account despite assurances which were given on two occasions by his office.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): The telephone in question was disconnected in December 1981 for non-payment of the account. A final account which was issued earlier this year following termination of the agreement for service is still unpaid. The question of providing service again cannot be considered until the outstanding account is paid.

356. Mr. B. Allen asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a public telephone will be located on the upper part of Silverheights estate near Boher-boy Close, Cork.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): The provision of a telephone kiosk in upper part of Silverheights estate is not considered warranted at present. There is an existing kiosk within about a quarter mile at Silverheights Road.

357. Mr. Keegan asked the Minister [76] for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the long delay in installing a telephone for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson): It has been possible to provide telephone service for the person named so far because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the County Westmeath area and a shortage of equipment at the local exchange.
