Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Station.

1065. Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice if he will provide a Garda station for the expanding area of Firhouse, Dublin 16, in view of the increasing crime rate there.

Minister for Justice (Mr. Doherty): The Garda authorities have informed me that, following consultation with the local Garda Officers, they consider that the provision of a station in the Firhouse area would not be warranted at present.

A study team, consisting of representatives of the Garda Síochána and the Department of the Public Service, which carried out a detailed examination of how the most effective police service can be provided for all developing areas in Dublin city and county, has recommended changes in the boundaries of [135] many of the sub-districts in the Dublin Metropolitan Area, including the Rathfarnham and Tallaght sub-districts which serve the Firhouse area. The study team's recommendations, which are aimed at improving the Garda service in the areas concerned, are under consideration at present.
