Mr. O'Keeffe Mr. O'Keeffe
353. Mr. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the up-to-date position in relation to the additional work to be carried out on the pier at Oileán na gCaorach, Bere Island, County Cork; and when it is expected that the Office of Public Works will put this project in hand.
Minister for Fisheries and Forestry (Mr. Daly) Brendan Daly
Minister for Fisheries and Forestry (Mr. Daly): My Department provided a grant of 75 per cent of the cost of harbour improvement works at Oileán na gCaorach, Bere Island, which were required in the fishery interest. The works have recently been completed.
While the additional work referred to by the Deputy is in the interest of communications the Department agreed to meet 75 per cent of the cost. However, the funds allocated in the current year for the improvement of fishery harbours are fully committed to more urgent demands with the result that it will not be possible to undertake the work at Oileán na gCaorach this year.
