Mr. Donnellan asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give details of the new fertiliser subsidy scheme. Minister for Agriculture (Mr. MacSharry) Ray MacSharry Minister for Agriculture (Mr. MacSharry): A fertiliser subsidy scheme to encourage the production of grass for silage making is one of three new schemes which I announced last Friday. It provides for payment of a subsidy at the rate of £30 per ton on a quantity of up to one ton of CAN (calcium ammonium nitrate) or equivalent in high nitrogenous fertiliser bought and spread between 2 May and 30 June. As in case of a similar scheme last Autumn, the scheme will be operated through the local ACOT service and application forms will shortly be available from ACOT offices.
