261. Mrs. Burke asked the Minister for Finance why a contract was not given to an applicant (details supplied) in County Roscommon even though he was qualified to do the work and was consulted by the Office of Public Works on several occasions.

Minister for Finance (Mr. G. Fitzgerald): The contract in this case was awarded on the basis of the lowest suitable tender after full consideration of all the relevant factors.

It is contrary to practice to disclose information as to why any tender is not accepted.
