Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware of the price difference of soft drinks in comparison to alcoholic drinks and that this creates a tendency for young people to purchase alcoholic drink instead of soft drinks; and if he has any proposals to deal with the matter.

Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism (Mr. O'Malley): I am aware that discontent has been expressed in certain quarters at the price of soft drinks for on-premises consumption in licensed premises.

The National Prices Commission have had under consideration for some time the question of the control of soft drink prices at the retail level. They have recently made certain recommen-to me in the matter. These recommendations are under consideration.
