Dáil Éireann - Volume 317 - 28 November, 1979 Written Answers. - Trading Sanctions Against Zimbabwe-Rhodesia. Mr. Blaney Mr. Blaney 370. Mr. Blaney asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of international agreed trading sanctions against Zimbabwe-Rhodesia, he can guarantee that such sanctions are being implemented with regard to Irish firms and trade councils. Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. O'Kennedy) Michael O'Kennedy Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. O'Kennedy): In fulfilment of our obligations under UN Security Council resolutions, exports to and imports from Southern Rhodesia are prohibited, except under licence, by orders made by the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy and the Minister for Agriculture. Licences have been issued only infrequently on the basis of express exceptions on humanitarian and other grounds included in the Security Council provisions. The Government are not aware of any breaches of these sanctions by Irish firms or bodies. If the Deputy has any evidence of such breaches no doubt he will bring it to our attention so that appropriate action may be taken. Dáil Éireann 317 Written Answers.
