333. Mr. Bruton asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy his attitude to the current EEC draft directive on food labelling.

[1647] Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy (Mr. O'Malley): I consider that this directive will provide the consumer with much information which he ought to have about foodstuffs and my intention is therefore to implement it fully when it is adopted, and within the time limits allowed.

There has been full discussion with food producers and packers who are satisfied they can comply with its requirements.
