Dáil Éireann - Volume 304 - 15 March, 1978

Written Answers. - Land Purchase Estimate.

329. Mr. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture why only a token estimate has been provided for land purchase by the Land Commission in 1978, as against £2 million in 1977.

Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Gibbons): It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to subhead H2 of the Lands Vote.

The provision in this subhead is applied towards a grant-in-aid fund used for paying for certain purchases of land for cash and a token provision is made this year because the balance in the fund is regarded as adequate to meet expected requirements. Most land purchases are, of course, financed by land bonds.
