285. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will set up a special section within his Department to deal with the technology sector of chemical production in view of the fact that a major part of the growth in employment has been attained in this field.

Minister for Industry and Commerce (Mr. Keating): I do not consider a special arrangement of the kind suggested to be necessary. I consider the combined resources of the Department, the Industrial Development Authority, the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards and the National Science Council to be adequate. As the Deputy has [224] pointed out, developments in this sector have resulted in a significant growth in employment. This has occurred under the existing arrangements.
