Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Awards.

35. Dr. Loughnane asked the Minister for Justice why, at the recent awarding of bravery medals and promotion to members of the Garda Síochána, a garda (details supplied), who had carried out his duty bravely and heroically when attacked and wounded by a group of armed and masked men, was omitted.

Mr. Cooney: In accordance with the express intention of the donor, the award of a Scott medal is a matter solely for the decision of the Commissioner and, accordingly, it would be inappropriate for me to ask the Commissioner to explain a decision to award or not to award a medal in any particular case.
