11. Mr. Gogan asked the Minister for Local Government if he will encourage the trade unions to invest money in the building of houses for their members on lines similar to those in operation in Israel and Germany.

Mr. Tully: I am aware that trade unions in Germany and Israel provide funds for the building of houses and I would welcome a move in this direction by Irish trade unions. However, the manner in which the unions invest their funds is primarily a matter for the unions themselves to decide.
