Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Goods Legislation.

152. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the National Prices Commission has submitted a report to him recommending the introduction of legislation similar to the Supply of Goods Bill which has been introduced in the UK parliament.

Mr. Keating: I presume that the UK legislation which the Deputy has in mind is the Supply of Goods (Implied Terms) Act, 1973. No report has been submitted to me by the National Prices Commission recommending the introduction of similar legislation in this country.

Mr. Lemass: Is the Minister satisfied that the controls he has brought into operation are satisfactory to the consumers in relation to prices?

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: That is outside the scope of this question.

Mr. Lemass: Does he consider introducing new legislation——

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: That is outside the scope of the question the Deputy asked.

Mr. Lemass: I am discussing Question No. 152.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: Yes, that is outside the scope of Question No. 152.

Mr. Lemass: I asked about legislation introduced in the United Kingdom Parliament and if the Minister considers introducing similar legislation here.

[1356] An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: The Deputy asked if there had been a report to the Minister recommending the introduction of legislation similar to that introduced in the UK Parliament. The Minister answered that question.

Mr. Lemass: Will the Minister introduce new legislation or not?

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: The Deputy will have to put down a separate question if he wants that information. Question No. 153.

Mr. Lemass: It is a straight question. I assume, Sir, that you are not allowing the Minister to answer that question.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: The Deputy's supplementary is not germane to the question asked. Question No. 153 has been called.

Mr. Lemass: The question is straight. The United Kingdom Parliament has introduced legislation in this regard. I am asking if the Minister of our Parliament will introduce similar legislation.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: The Minister to answer Question No. 153.
