128. Mr. B. Desmond asked the Taoiseach the number of films (a) completed and (b) commissioned by his Department in the last 12 months, distinguishing between those for (i) foreign and (ii) domestic showing.

129. Mr. B. Desmond asked the Minister for Health the number of films (a) completed and (b) commissioned by his Department in the last 12 months, distinguishing between those for (i) foreign and (ii) domestic showing.

Minister for Health (Mr. Corish): (a) No films were completed in the last 12 months but seven short commercial filmlets for showing on television were completed for domestic consumption. (b) one film for domestic consumption.

130. Mr. B. Desmond asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of films (a) completed and (b) commissioned by his Department in the last 12 months, distinguishing between those for (i) foreign and (ii) domestic showing.

131. Mr. B. Desmond asked the Minister for Defence the number of films (a) completed and (b) commissioned by his Department in the last 12 months, distinguishing between those for (i) foreign and (ii) domestic showing.

Minister for Defence (Mr. Donegan): During the last 12 months, four filmlets (for Army recruiting purposes) were commissioned by and completed for my Department. They are being shown only in this country.

132. Mr. B. Desmond asked the Minister for Local Government the number of films (a) completed and (b) commissioned by his Department in the last 12 months, distinguishing between those for (i) foreign and (ii) domestic showing.

Minister for Local Government (Mr. Tully): During the past 12 months one documentary film on road safety has been commissioned by my Department and is not yet completed. Eight short filmlets on various aspects of road safety for broadcasting by RTE as a public service were also commissioned. Of these three have been completed and five are at various stages of completion. These productions are for domestic showing.

Minister for the Public Service (Mr. R. Ryan): No films were completed or commissioned by my Department in the period mentioned by the Deputy.

Minister for Education (Mr. R. Burke): No films have been commissioned by my Department during the past 12 months.

Some 35mm. films strips have been commissioned for use in schools. These are for social and environmental studies and for the teaching of oral Irish. All this material is intended for domestic consumption.
