[233] 38. Mr. M. O'Leary asked the Minister for Education whether any new relationship is contemplated with the teacher training colleges when the university merger in Dublin is complete.

Mr. Faulkner: This is one of a number of matters arising from the recommendations of the Commission on Higher Education which are under consideration. Until this consideration is complete, I have no statement to make in the matter.

39. Mr. M. O'Leary asked the Minister for Education when he expects the university merger talks to be complete; and when the merger is likely to be finalised.

Mr. Faulkner: The matter concerned is a very complex one calling for lengthy negotiations but I hope that they will be concluded in the near future.
