Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abolition of Death Penalty.

11. Mr. Sherwin asked the Minister for Justice whether he has considered the abolition of the death penalty for murder; and, if so, if he will state his decision on the matter.

Mr. Traynor: It is not my intention to recommend any alteration in the law.

Mr. Sherwin: I suggest that if the Minister studied carefully—perhaps he has—Chessman's last effort, he might change his mind.

An Ceann Comhairle: The Deputy is not entitled to make a speech.

Mr. Sherwin: He may realise there is good in many evil people. Do not forget St. Paul could have been crucifiel but he was not.
