13. Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the circumstances in which and the authority under which facilities were provided by the Garda Síochána for a high British police officer to interview in April, 1958, a private individual residing in this country for the purpose of obtaining information which was subsequently sold for publication in an English Sunday newspaper.

Mr. Traynor: No facilities for such an interview were provided by the Garda Síochána. I am informed, however, that arrangements for the first meeting between the two persons concerned were made through an officer of the Garda Síochána who was well known to both of them. It was purely private business and the Garda officer was acting entirely in his private capacity.
