Dáil Éireann - Volume 164 - 23 October, 1957 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turkey Prices. Mr. Wycherley Mr. Wycherley Mr. Wycherley asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the price per lb. which producers may expect for turkeys in the coming season. Mr. Moylan Mr. Moylan Mr. Moylan: The prices that producers may receive for turkeys in the coming season will be largely determined by the prices obtainable on the British market, which takes the bulk of our turkeys in the Christmas season. While our turkey numbers are estimated to be about 15 per cent. less this year than in 1956, it is understood that the supply of British-produced turkeys is likely to be almost as great in the coming season as in 1956. 49 For the information and guidance of turkey producers, particulars of turkey prices and market conditions in the principal centres in Britain, together [49] with details of the live-weight prices paid to producers at our local markets, will again be provided in my Department's market bulletin which is issued twice weekly to the Press and radio. Mr. Wycherley Mr. Wycherley Mr. Wycherley: Will the introduction of the new breed of white turkeys make any improvement in the market prices of that breed? Mr. M.P. Murphy Mr. M.P. Murphy Mr. M.P. Murphy: Will the Deputy now say that the introduction of himself to this House last February was supposed to have a big bearing on the prices of turkeys this Christmas? Deputies Deputies Deputies: Hear, hear! An Ceann Comhairle Patrick (Clare) Hogan An Ceann Comhairle: Order! Dáil Éireann 164 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Turkey Prices. Questions 19571023
