Mr. Davin asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amount allocated from the Road Fund to the Counties of (1) Laoighis and (2) Offaly for the year ending March 31st, 1954.

Mr. Smith: I hope to notify particulars of the annual Road Fund grants for the coming year to county councils in the near future.

Mr. Davin: What is the definition of the words “near future”?

Mr. Smith: I have heard several people trying to make a shot at it and I cannot improve on previous efforts in this House.

Mr. Everett: Will the Minister notify them in advance, as it would facilitate the consideration of the estimates of expenditure?

[681] Mr. Smith: I suppose it would. In certain cases it might not be such a wonderful advantage, from my point of view, if the allocations were notified in advance.
