Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abolition of Death Penalty.

Mr. Larkin asked the Minister for Justice if he will have consideration given to the advisability of abolishing the death penalty in the penal code.

[1187] General Mulcahy: I have considered this question and at present I do not propose to recommend any alterations in the law.

Mr. Kyne: Has the Minister anything to prove that the abolition of the death penalty would cause any increase in crime?

General Mulcahy: If the Deputy would put down a question for the Minister for Justice on his return, the Minister, who has given consideration to the matter, may possibly be able to answer the question.
