Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing.
Mr. Corish (for Mr. Norton) Mr. Corish (for Mr. Norton)
Mr. Corish (for Mr. Norton) asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether it has been brought to his notice that the County Dublin Board of Health are precluded from providing labourers' cottages for persons residing within their jurisdiction who work either permanently or temporarily outside the county health district; and, if so, whether he is prepared to make regulations to enable proper housing accommodation to be provided for families who have resided all their lives in the county board of health district, but are obliged to accept work in the City of Dublin owing to the scarcity of work in County Dublin.
Mr. O Ceallaigh Mr. O Ceallaigh
Mr. O Ceallaigh: No representations have been made to me in the matter referred to by the Deputy, but the power to provide cottages conferred on boards of health is restricted by the Labourers Acts to the provision of cottages for persons coming within the definition of “agricultural labourer” as laid down in the Acts. The matter is not governed by regulations but by statute.
