Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Death Penalty

Mr. MacDermot asked the Minister for Justice whether he will consider introducing proposals for legislation to suspend the use of the death penalty for a trial period of five years.

Mr. Ruttledge: I do not propose to introduce legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.

Mr. MacDermot: If such legislation is introduced by private Deputies will the Government give facilities for its discussion and allow a free vote of the House upon it?

Mr. Ruttledge: That is a separate question.

Mr. Norton: Will the Deputy introduce private legislation in connection with Question 4?
