Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon Ladder at Ennistymon Falls.

Pádraig O hOgáin (An Clár) asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries [1608] if he will state whether representations have been made by the residents of Ennistymon and district, in respect of the necessity of constructing a salmon ladder at the Ennistymon Falls, with a view to the development of fishing in that district.

Minister for Lands and Fisheries (Mr. Lynch): Representations by persons in the district mentioned have been made to me on this subject, which is primarily a matter for the Limerick Board of Conservators of Fisheries.

Mr. P. Hogan: Is the Minister prepared to give any help in view of the possibilities of fishery development in the district?

Mr. Lynch: It depends a good deal. The development there would primarily improve private fisheries; they are private waters. But if a case could be made that the rights of public fisheries were to be improved by any works done there by the Department, then the Department might be prepared to consider a small grant.
