Dáil Éireann - Volume 40 - 04 November, 1931 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Twiss-Henry Estate. Mr. T. Sheehy (Tipperary) Mr. T. Sheehy (Tipperary) 794 Mr. T. Sheehy (Tipperary) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce [794] to state why compensation has not been paid to the tenants on the Twiss-Henry estate for alleged flooding of meadowing at Birdhill, Pollocks, for the year 1930. Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan: The claim for compensation in respect of 1930, by the occupiers of the Pollagh meadows covered practically the whole of the meadow lands in this area and, having regard to the abnormal rainfall in 1930, the engineers had to survey the area and determine how much was affected by the Shannon scheme, and how much through excessive rainfall. The staff had to postpone the completion of this task in order to prepare plans for the protection works decided on some time after the Deputy's question of 4th December, 1930. In the meantime a claim for losses in 1931 has been received and is under investigation. It is intended to deal with the 1930 and 1931 claims together in the near future.
