Dáil Éireann - Volume 40 - 21 October, 1931 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inniskea Islands Inhabitants. Mícheál O Cléirigh Mícheál O Cléirigh 401 [401] Mícheál O Cléirigh asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what arrangements have been made for the migration of the inhabitants of Inniskea Islands, North and South, to the mainland, and the names of the islanders who have accepted the terms offered by the Land Commission in connection with the migration scheme. Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: The Land Commission propose to utilise the lands of Surgeview or Nakil and Letterbeg, recently acquired from Mr. Patrick J. O'Reilly, in connection with the migration of the inhabitants of the Inniskea Islands. Over 400 acres are available and will be utilised for the provision of small holdings and grazing commonage. Pending the completion and approval of a scheme for the division of the lands, conacre and grazing facilities are already available for the islanders, and work on the building of dwellinghouses is in progress, a provisional sanction of £2,000 for the first ten houses, as well as £500 for general improvements, having been made in February last to develop the lands. I am not in a position to state the names of the islanders who will be migrated, as the scheme of division as yet is only in tentative form. Mr. Clery Mr. Clery Mr. Clery: Have any of the islanders refused to accept the terms offered by the Land Commission? Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: Not that I know of. Mr. Clery Mr. Clery Mr. Clery: They have not definitely accepted the terms? Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: They have, verbally. Dáil Éireann 40 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers.
