Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will State the estimated average cost of building three, four and five-roomed houses in each of the years 1929, 1930 and 1931.

Minister for Local Government and Public Health (General Mulcahy): The following table shows the average cost of building three, four and five-roomed houses by local authorities during the years 1929, 1230 and 1931. There were no three-roomed houses built in 1929 by local authorities.

Too wide conclusions should not be drawn from these figures as it must be borne in mind that types and standards and methods of construction have not been uniform over the period.

*Five-roomed houses were provided in only two provincial towns during the year 1931.
