Dáil Éireann - Volume 39 - 16 July, 1931 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Estate (Mayo). Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh 2188 Mr. Walsh asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state if [2188] the Land Commission propose taking any steps to make a final settlement of the Sligo Estate, Purranes district, Hollymount, County Mayo; whether he will also state what steps the Land Commission are taking to relieve the acute congestion that exists in this area. Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: The Land Commission have not yet been able to complete the resale of the portion of the estate of the Marquis of Sligo in County Mayo referred to by the Deputy, which was acquired by the Congested Districts Board. Offers of migration have been made to several of the tenants of large holdings thereon, but these so far have not been accepted. Pending the resale of these lands, a number of the small tenants have been put into occupation of the available untenanted land under grazing lettings. Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh: Will any steps be taken in future to deal with the claims of these small tenants? Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: That would depend on whether we succeed in migrating some of the larger tenants. Dáil Éireann 39 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Sligo Estate (Mayo).
