Dáil Éireann - Volume 39 - 16 July, 1931 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dalgan River (Mayo). Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh Mr. Walsh asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether he proposes to make arrangements or take steps to drain the Dalgan river, Logboy district, County Mayo; if he will also state if there is any likelihood of this work being undertaken in the near future. Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr. Bourke) James A Burke Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr. Bourke): I must refer the Deputy to the reply given to Deputy Killilea on the 25th March last, in connection with the joint scheme for the Dalgan and Sinking rivers in Counties Mayo and Galway, which was as follows:— “The Commissioners of Public Works have had the Dalgan and Sinking rivers district inspected by an engineer. On consideration of the engineer's report they wrote to the Galway County Council regarding the effect which a drainage scheme for the district would have on the lower reaches of the Clare-Dalgan river, especially in the Dunmore drainage district, and pending a reply have postponed the detailed investigation of the proposal. In any event, until a drainage scheme has been prepared and submitted to the votes of the occupiers of affected lands, it will not be possible to state when, if at all, drainage works are likely to start in the district. “A copy of the Commissioners' letter to the County Council was sent to each Deputy from County Galway, on the 21st instant.” 2167 The Commissioners of Public Works are in communication with the Galway County Council relative to a petition in respect of the existing Dunmore drainage district, which has been presented to them. The County Council have not yet fulfilled the requirements of the Act in regard to the petition. When they do so, the Commissioners must complete detailed inspections of the rivers in the two counties, Galway and Mayo, and these investigations will occupy a considerable time. There [2167] is no likelihood that the works can be begun in the near future. Dáil Éireann 39 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Dalgan River (Mayo). Questions 19310716
