Mr. Aiken: When is it proposed to carry out the promise made on the part of the Government that they would get out if the people of Kildare turned down their candidate?

The President: Will the Deputy give me information as to when the promise was made and by what member of the Government?

Mr. Aiken: It was made in all seriousness and given a scare headline right across a page of the “Irish Independent.”

Mr. Aiken: The people of Kildare think that the Government might possibly carry it out.

Mr. Lemass: Would the President state when it is proposed to adjourn for the Summer Recess and what business it is intended to deal with before the Adjournment?

The President: I anticipate an adjournment on Friday week. It is proposed to pass into law Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Order Paper and the other Bills that are in progress, not taking No. 9 or No. 12, and possibly, not taking No. 11 or No. 13.

Mr. Derrig: Might I ask if it is the intention to complete the list of Estimates on the Order Paper before the Adjournment?

The President: Yes.

Mr. Corry: What about the Beet Sugar Estimate?

The President: We are prepared to take it now if the Deputy wishes. He was not very anxious to take it before.

Dr. Ryan: Will the President say if it is intended to proceed with No. 9 on the Order Paper—the Minerals Bill?

The President: I do not anticipate that it will be put through all its stages.
