Ua Dubhghaill asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has made, or intends to make, any representations to the Great Southern Railways with regard to the expenditure of £100,000 in shop extensions by the Company as included in the terms of settlement by arbitration of a dispute with the railway shopmen with reference to conditions of employment in 1929. Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan: A proposal by the Great Southern Railways Company for shop extensions at Inchicore has been before my Department. Further progress with the proposal, and a definition of its scope, depend on whether adequate financial arrangements can be made to meet the expenditure that would be involved. Mr. Doyle Mr. Doyle 798 Mr. Doyle: May I ask the Minister if he hopes to be in a position to give [798] sympathetic consideration to these proposals? Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan: Certainly, but adequate financial arrangements would not entirely depend upon me. Mr. Doyle Mr. Doyle Mr. Doyle: Has the Minister any information that the Company proposes making provision for the extension of their works so that they could execute orders for outside firms?
