Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities in Longford.

Mr. M.P. Connolly asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will state if and when he intends installing a public telephone service in the villages of Tarmonbarry, on the [795] Longford-Roscommon border, and at Clondra, Co. Longford.

Mr. Heffernan (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs): I regret that the provision of public telephone service at either Tarmonbarry or Clondra would not be warranted inasmuch as the revenue likely to be derived from calls would not be nearly sufficient to cover the expenditure which would be necessary and a considerable loss to public funds would consequently be involved.
